I love stylish action and creative fights. It takes more than fast hands and flashy kicks to wow me. I love a fight that:
*makes clever use of the environment;

*establishes themes such as ‘strong vs fast’ or ‘skilled vs determined’
*has meaning and contributes to the overall story

Choreographers that embody all these qualities are rare. But here are some of my favorites:

Our Friends Comment On The Inside Edition Scandal

Posted on December 1st, by Micah Moore in Articles, Beat Down Boogie.

You may know that the CBS-produced program, Inside Edition, used our DragonCon 2010 video WITHOUT PERMISSION in a story about an unrelated criminal investigation. We took offense to having our video twisted into a misleading portrayal of our community as deviants and criminals. People are understandably upset that Inside Edition chose to steal an unrelated video featuring their faces and attach it to a criminal investigation story. Here’s some of the feedback we’ve received:

We’ve been getting messages from people featured in our DragonCon 2010 video that recently saw themselves in a missing persons story on Inside Edition. Or even worse, their family saw them and were alarmed.

WE NEVER GAVE INSIDE EDITION PERMISSION TO USE OUR VIDEO!!!

INSIDE EDITION IS UNLAWFULLY AND UNETHICALLY INFRINGING ON OUR COPYRIGHTS!

While MWGS part 4 and 5 are in post-production, it’s a good time to pay tribute to the awesome filmmakers of the YouTube era. First up: Clinton Jones.

You might know him as Pwnisher on YouTube, or as the director of CBE films. But most of you know Clinton Jones as the maker of Cardboard Warfare.

The idea for Cardboard Warfare started innocently enough – Clinton and his friend Tyler wanted to make a full-sized tank. But steel plates are … Read the rest

Kevin Smith: The Truth About Film Distribution

Posted on January 26th, by Micah Moore in Articles, behind the scenes, filmmaking tips, Inspiration, live events, tutorials.

At the Sundance screening of Red State, Kevin Smith ranted about the film distribution system. His words hit home with the Beat Down Boogie crew. Whether you like Smith’s films or not, he’s one of the only filmmakers in the industry exposing the ridiculous process of film distribution. We consider his rant important for anyone wanting to break into the film business!

“I’ve learned a few things.” The director of Clerks and Dogma is speaking at the Sundance Film … Read the rest
